RACER INFORMATION

LOCATION: Coney Island, 6201 Kellogg Avenue, Cincinnati, Ohio

COURSE: Races start at Coney Island, on the Ohio River

TIME: First race starts at 7:15 am. Pro races begin Lemans style with racers starting on land and running with their canoes and kayaks into the Ohio. The Amateur Race contestants will begin by class in the Ohio.

All competitors must pick up their race numbers before the meeting and attend a pre-race meeting at 6:45 am.

REGISTER: Register online or download a Racer Registration Form and mail into address listed on form with payment before deadline.

FEE: Early online registration until May3 at midnight $30/person for Pro classes; $25.00 person Amateur classes & SUP Race: Prices increase May 4-June 15 by $5.00 and again on Friday, June 22 by $5.00 There is no day of event race registration.

RULES: All racers must have a Coast Guard Approved PFD for each person in the craft during the entire race and this must be easily accessible; one whistle per craft. The race director may require that PFD’s be worn during the entire race. All non-swimming competitors must wear a PFD during the entire race. All paddlers under 15 years of age must wear a PFD during the entire race.

All competitors who quit the race for any reason before the finish line must report to the race director at the finish line as soon as possible.

Paddles: Any number of single blade paddles of any material and size may be used in the canoe. A competitor may use only one paddle at a time. Any number of double bladed paddles may be used in kayak class or unlimited K1 class. Only hand powered craft are legal for the canoe and kayak races.

Race Course (14 mile Pro Race): The race will begin with a Lemans start. At the ramp at Coney Island racers will proceed up stream 2 miles and do a clockwise buoy turn, then head down stream to the Little Miami River.  From the Little Miami they will head upstream to the Kellogg Avenue bridge.  Just before the bridge there will be a counterclockwise turn where racers will then head down river to the Ohio River where they will make a right turn and head down river to the Finish Line  at the Public Landing in downtown Cincinnati.

Race Course (11 mile Amateur Race): Same course minus the 2 mile paddle up stream. (May be subject to change.)

5 Mile Ohio River SUP Race presented by Quick Blade
The inaugural SUP Race starts at approximately 7:50 am at Coney Island on Saturday, June 23.  There will be two classes – male and female.  Coast Guard regulations require that all racers either wear a PDF or have one attached to their paddleboard.  The 5-mile course is all downriver ending at the SUP race finish line at Schmidt Field on the Ohio side of the river.  Racers can relax and then take their time paddling the final 3 miles to the  Cincinnati Public Landing, the final take out for Paddlefest.  Medals will be awarded to the first three finishers in each class. All paddlers must arrive at the Public Landing by noon. The river opens to barge traffic at 12 pm.

AWARDS: $2,500 in total prize money for 2012. The award ceremony will take place at 1:15 am in front of the band tent at the Finish Line Festival at Yeatman’s Cove.
