2008 Paddlefest Race Details
Location
Both the 14 Mile Pro Race and the 9 Mile Amateur Race will begin at the concrete boat ramp at Coney Island. The Pro Race will begin Lemans style with racers starting on land and running with their canoes and kayaks into the Ohio. The Amateur Race contestants will begin by class in the Ohio.
Course
14 Mile Pro Race
Paddlers in the Pro Race will head approximately 1.5 miles upsteam from the Coney boat ramp where they will turn at a monitored red buoy and head downstream approxilately 1.5 miles to the Little Miami River. They will paddle up the LMI about 2 miles, turn at a monitored buoy and return to the Ohio where they will paddle the final 6.5 miles to the finish line at the Serpentine Wall. While paddling from the Little Miami down the Ohio, racers will need to stay on the Ohio side of three monitored red buoys before arriving at the Finish Line.
9 Mile Amateur Race
Amateur racers will head upstream .2 of a mile from the start at the Coney boat ramp, turn around a monitored green buoy and head downstream about 1.7 miles to the Little Miami River. They will paddle up the LMI about 1 mile, turn at a monitored red buoy by the Kellogg Ave. Bridge and turn to the Ohio where they will paddle downstream about 6.5 miles to the Finish Line at the Serpentine Wall. They will also have to stay on the Ohio side of three monitored red buoys between the LMI and the Finish Line.

14 Mile Pro Race - LeMans start at 7:45 a.m.
9 Mile Amateur Race - classes start at 7:55 a.m. in the water
Rules
All racers must have a Coast Guard Approved PFD for each person in the craft during the entire race and this must be easily accessible; one whistle per craft. The race director may require that PFDs be worn during the entire race. All non-swimming competitors must wear a PFD during the entire race. All paddlers under 15 years of age must wear a PFD during the entire race.
All competitors who quit the race for any reason before the finish line must report to the race director at the finish line as soon as possible.
Paddles: Any number of single blade paddles of any material and size may be in the canoe. A competitor may use only one paddle at a time. Any number of double bladed paddles may be used in kayak class or unlimited K1 class.

Duke Energy 14 Mile Pro Race
The only USCA Sanctioned Pro Race in the Tri-State Area
Sanctioned
by the U.S. Canoe Association, this 14 Mile Pro Race is the only professional
canoe race in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana and the only one on the entire
Ohio River. It will begin at 7:45 a.m. after a mandatory racer orientation meeting at 7:15am. (look for signs to racer's meeting). Prize money (totaling
$3,500) will be awarded to the top finishing teams based on the number
of finishers per class. Classes include Men, Women and Mixed C-2 and Unlimited
K-1. Winning C-2 racers finished in just under 2 hours in 2006.
US Bank 9 Mile Amateur Canoe & Kayak Race
Sanctioned by the United States Canoe Association
The
9 Mile Amateur Canoe & Kayak Race will begin at 7:55 a.m. after a mandatory
racer orientation meeting at 7:15am. Medals will be given to the top finishers
based on the number of finishers in each class. Canoe classes include Men's
and Women's C-1 as well as Men's, Women and Mixed C-2 Cruiser or Recreational.
Kayak classes include Men's and Women's K-1 Recreational or Sea Kayak.
This year's course will include a leg on the Little Miami River as well
as the Ohio. Winning times in 2007 ranged from 1:30-1:50 depending on the
class.
