Schedule of Events for Paddlefest Weekend 2012

Thursday, June 21
Paddlefest Kids Outdoor Adventure Expo at Coney Island Park, 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Presented by Hamilton County Park District, RiverWorks Discovery and AEP River Operations. 

Kids Expo is the largest environmental, nature and water safety education event for children in the Midwest and 2011 first place award winner of the OPRA (Ohio Parks and Recreation) Award for Excellence in Environmental Programs.

The Kids Outdoor Adventure Expo is free and open to the public. It is open to summer camps, individuals, summer school programs and organized groups. Kids of all ages will be able to tour a towboat, fish, paddle a raft on Lake Como, take a nature walk, pet farm animals, climb a climbing wall, learn safe biking  and bike repair,  learn about water safety, nutrition, renewable energy and wildlife of the Ohio River Basin. More than 40 interactive exhibits and activities.

Friday, June 22
Ohio River Music & Outdoor Festival at Coney Island Park, 5:00 p.m.-11:30 pm.
Presented by Procter & Gamble

Fun for the whole family on the banks of the Ohio.

10 a.m.- 9 p.m.: Boat drop off and registration open for 8.2-mile float trip, 11 & 14 mile races, Poker Run and Kayak Fishing Tournament.

9-11 a.m.: Northern KY/Cincinnati Chapter Team River Runner
Adaptive Paddling program for military veterans on Coney Island’s Lake Como.

10 a.m.- 4 p.m.: American Canoe Association(ACA)  Smart Start kayak clinics on Lake Como (60-minute sessions) managed by Hamilton County Park District.

3:00 p.m. -5 p.m.: Stand Up Paddle boarding  (SUP) Demo/Clinics on Lake Como

12 Noon – 5 p.m.: Boat demos – try out a new boat on Lake Como

4-9 p.m.: Silent Auction/Bid-n-Buy

4-8 p.m.:Northern KentuckyFly Fishers Kayak Fishing Tournament on theOhio River. Awards ceremony following final weigh-in at 8:15 p.m.

4-11 p.m.: Outdoor Gear Market & Vendor Fair presented by Mountain Khakis

5-9 p.m.: Gear Swap & Flea Market

5-11 p.m.: “Roots on the River” Music Festival featuring live music on the WNKU Band stage:

  • Magnolia Mountain
  • Jake Speed & the Freddies
  • Tex Schramm & the Radio King Cowboys
  • The Lewis Brothers
  • Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band

 5-8 pm: Dragon Boat mini sprint races on Lake Como (proceeds benefit the Kentucky Thorough Breasts & Cincinnati Children’s Hospital

7- 8 p.m.: New Richmond Cardboard Boat Races onLakeComo, with an awards presentation afterward. This event is open to the public. Go to www.ohioriverway.org/cardboard

9 p.m.: Registration and boat drop-off closes.

Midnight: Festival ends

Saturday, June 23, 2010
Paddle the Ohio & the Finish Line Festival presented by Gold Star Chili at Yeatman’s Cove - 6:30 a.m.-2:30  p.m.

Join 2,000 adults, children  and dogs for  America’s largest paddling event!

6:30-9 a.m.: Paddler registration and boat drop-off atConey Island(6201 Kellogg Ave.,Cincinnati).

6:45 p.m.: Mandatory racer meeting.

7:15 a.m.: All races begin

7:50-9:00 a.m.: Paddler put-in – 8.2-Mile Float Trip (All rental boats must be picked up by 8:15; am Final boat leaves at 9:00 am )

9:30-10:30 a.m.: Paddler Pit Stop at Schmidt Field – restrooms & drinking water available.

12:00 p.m. -1:00 pm: SUP Board Demos/Clinic on Ohio River (to the left of the Showboat Majestic)

10:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m: Finish Line Festival at Yeatman’s Cove – Live music by Lagniappe, exhibitors, refreshments and more.

11:15 a.m.: Racer awards presentation.

12:15 p.m.: Raffle drawing in front of band tent

2:45 p.m.: Last shuttle bus leaves Public Landing  for Coney Island.
