Cardboard Boat Races – Build your own boat!
Paddlefest Cardboard Boat Races
Friday, June 22 on Lake Como
Coney Island at 7:00 pm
Presented by the New Richmond International Cardboard Boat Museum
“What are cardboard boat races you ask?”
Cardboard Boat Building is an art (assuming the designers goal is to compete and not sink) and Race Rules are very strict. There are 3 key components in the building process: The main hull of the boats must be constructed from Corrugated board, Tape and Paint… (glue or other building materials are prohibited-except in non-structural components)
In 2010, about 50 boats entered the New Richmond Cardboard Boat Regatta and they hope to have 60 this year. New Richmond is believed to have the largest number of unique designs and entrants in the entire country…and most teams return each year to race. Over 22 unique custom trophies have been given out to participants.
